Hello, ECDC! We have an exciting meeting planned for our next general membership meeting (4th Tuesday of the month, March 28). Rebecca Barrett from Congressman Mark DeSaulnier’s office (D-Concord) will be speaking on the Indivisible Guide. Please see Hilary’s earlier post regarding the Indivisible Guide. Please note that we may have to change the speaker at the last minute.
After Rebecca’s talk and your questions, we will turn to our own VP of Records (Marlene Keller) and VP of Media (Mollie Hazen) to discuss the next action steps we can make as individual ECDC members. Also, both will speak about our July 4th booth (hint: volunteers needed!).On a side note, please remember that we need to recruit new ECDC members and renew previous ECDC members. The more members we enroll into the club, the greater our collective progressive voice in El Cerrito. This will become even more relevant when we weigh in with endorsements of Democratic primary candidates in 2018 (every 20 ECDC members gives ECDC 1 vote to endorse a Democratic primary candidate). So, recruit your friends, life partners, neighbors, and anyone else registered as a Democrat. Our March meeting agenda was developed by a quorum of our Executive Board, which met on March 6. The President, VP of Publications, VP of Membership, VP of Records, Treasurer, and VP of Media were present at the Executive Board meeting.
WANT TO HELP WITH THE SHADI HOLIDAY DISPLAY?
Dear ECDC Members,
The Shadi Holiday Display www.shadiholidaydisplay.com will be on view starting December 11 through December 26, 2016.
As you may know, each evening the display has shepherds (volunteers) on site to monitor the viewers, answer questions, turn on and off the music and lights (simple on and off switch). It is basically being an ambassador of the display.
We are soliciting shepherds for each night. Shifts are 5:00pm-7:30pmand 7:30pm-10:00pm.
Being a shepherd at the display for a two and half hour shift is really a magical experience. Hearing the visitors’ stories about their history with the display is interesting and awe inspiring. It makes one realize what an important and unusual holiday ‘event’ the city has in its midst.
The deadline for signups is December 1.
Please let me know if you may have any questions.

NOVEMBER PREVIEW: IMPORTANT DATE CHANGE!
Our November meeting, originally scheduled for Tuesday, November 22 (the 4th Tuesday), has been rescheduled to Tuesday, November 29 (the 5th Tuesday). Our topic is a recap of the November, 2016 election results. The California Democratic Party will do a comprehensive analysis of those results at the November executive board meeting being held in San Diego on November 17, 18 & 19th. We haven’t been able to find anyone who will attend that meeting who is willing to present on Nov. 22, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Therefore, we are postponing our meeting one week to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
Attendance at our November meeting has historically been low, probably as a consequence of taking place two days before Thanksgiving. We will propose making this a permanent change at our January, 2017 re-organization meeting.
