CENTENNIAL PARADE, SEPTEMBER 16 –
DIRECTIONS FOR WALKERS

The El Cerrito Centennial Showcase Parade will be held on Saturday, September 16. If you are walking with the ECDC, plan on arriving no later than 8:45 a.m. The staging area is the north section of the Safeway parking lot at 11450 San Pablo Avenue, corner of Hill Street.

If you drive to the staging area, plan on leaving your vehicle in the BART del Norte parking lot, not the Safeway parking lot.

The parade will proceed up Hill Street and turn right on Elm Street, which becomes Richmond Street. It will then turn left on Moeser Lane and end at Cerrito Vista Park. The entire parade route is 1.7 miles long and the organizers are hoping to keep a pace of five miles per hour.

MEET THE NEW WCCCUSD SUPERINTENDENT AT OUR SEPTEMBER MEETING!

Greetings, Democrats! With summer saying “Good-Bye!” we can now welcome the autumn season with a “Back-to-School” theme. For our next regularly scheduled ECDC general meeting, please join me in welcoming Matt Duffy, the Superintendent of West Contra Costa Unified School District (location change to El Cerrito High School’s cafeteria; see below).

Mr. Duffy will be presenting on various issues pertinent to El Cerrito’s neighborhood schools. His presentation will be followed by a Q&A session where ECDC members may ask questions about the general state of issues involving El Cerrito’s public schools. Not an ECDC member? That’s ok, membership forms will be available at the door.

Shortly after Mr. Duffy’s presentation, we will also hear from Joanna Pace of Public Core – a volunteer think tank dedicated to researching the privatization of public education – to discuss campaign finance surrounding the school board elections. This is in accordance with the General Membership’s vote on topics back in January 2017.

Finally, the ECDC Executive Board met on August 28, 2017. A quorum consisting of the President, Immediate Past President, Executive VP, VP of Records, VP of Membership, and VP of Publications met and:

–voted to pursue a replacement of our speaker that, after many duct tape and masking tape repairs, is now broken beyond repair;
–planned our annual dinner in October; and
–discussed our membership statistics, thanks to the data compilation from our VP of Membership.

Remember, our meeting location has changed for ECDC’s September 26 meeting. Instead of the church, we will be at El Cerrito High School’s cafeteria (540 Asbury Ave., where we have held Endorsement Forums in 2014 and 2016). Usual time (6:00PM pizza half-hour social, 6:30PM start time). See you there!
