PREVIEW OF Indivisible Guide DISCUSSION

Once we’ve read the Guide and heard the March meeting presentation,
we invite you to consider what next steps each of us might take on issues that we are passionate about.
As the Guide suggests, small subgroups taking action (e.g. letter writing) can have profound impact on our elected representatives.
So, it may be useful to form groups around urgent issues (such as health care, immigration) and any other issues we think are vital.
Our suggestion is that, as groups are formed, a group member can email Kip and let him know what the group’s focus is and the name of the group’s point of contact.  This information would be posted on the ECDC website.

EC HRC RECOMMENDS SANCTUARY CITY STATUS

On Wednesday evening, March 1st, the HRC (Human Relations Commission of El Cerrito) adopted a motion to recommend that the El Cerrito City Council declare the City of El Cerrito a Sanctuary City and that the City adopt a proposed resolution drafted by the HRC subcommittee and City staff.

In addition, the HRC adopted a motion to recommend that the El Cerrito City Council support Senate Bill 54, “The California Values Act.”

Many community members gave additional insights and suggestions this evening to further improve the language and intent of the Sanctuary City legislation. This resolution, the context and recommendations will be brought forth to City Council at the March 21st meeting.

Anyone that would like to add perspectives can provide a written statement or voice positions and ideas at the March 21st council meeting.

TOWN HALL WITH CONGRESSMAN DESAULNIER

Hello, Democrats! Are you concerned about the March 31 end of the Continuing Resolution, a stop-gap measure that funds our government in the absence of a federal budget? What about the restoration of the debt limit on March 16, preventing our country from borrowing what it needs to pay its bills? What will Congress do to address these fiscal issues that affect all the causes we advocate for?

Please join Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) for a political town hall on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017. The event will be held at UA 342, 935 Detroit Ave., Concord, CA 94518 from 6:30AM to 8:00PM.
