NEW OFFICERS NEEDED FOR 2018!

Are you looking forward to 2018 – maybe flipping some Congressional seats, getting a new Assembly member for AD 15, the local battle for new school board members? You can make YOUR 2018 even more exciting by signing up to be an officer of the El Cerrito Democratic Club.

As of right now we need to replace our Vice President of Records and our Vice President of Publications. And we’re always looking for folks to step up and help with outreach, organizing our precinct walks, and other activities.
If you’re interested, please contact me, Hilary Crosby, immediate past president of the ECDC, at hoomehilary@comcast.net. I’m happy to work with you to get more involved.

JULY 25 MEETING PREVIEW

Even with the incessant turmoil in the Democratic Party, and the disappointment many of us are experiencing (SB 562, anyone?), we can look forward to a really inspiring July meeting. Our speaker will be Kimberly Ellis, former executive director of Emerge California, who ran to be Chair of the California Democratic Party (CDP). By the time we meet, the Compliance Review Commission of the CDP may have issued its decision regarding the outcome of that contest. But whatever the outcome, we know that progressive Democrats have a heavy lift going forward. From the national disgrace of the 2016 election resulting in the current occupant of the White House, to the current struggle to enact single payer health care in California, progressive Democrats have our work cut out for us.

As a preview of the upcoming attraction, I will leave you with this quote from Kimberly’s birthday message on Facebook:
[Running for chair] was also about the opportunity to force some really tough and long overdue conversations along the way. It was a chance for the members of the California Democratic Party to hold the mirror up to our own faces and take a long, hard, honest look at ourselves.
It was about redefining what it meant to be a Democrat and getting our Party back to being the Party of the people, by the people and for the people.
Hope to see you there!

SUGGESTED PREPARATION: THE INDIVISIBLE GUIDE

Although our meeting about the Indivisible Guide isn’t until March, we just wanted to give you plenty of time to get ready for it.  Here’s the website where you can download the guide, or just read it online:

https://www.indivisibleguide.com/

If you don’t have internet access, then please call me (Hilary, 510-375-5647) and I’ll print one out and make sure it’s at the February meeting.  It’s 27 pages, so if you want it mailed, you’ll need to send me a 9×12 self addressed envelope stamped with $1.52 in postage.

This is a very inspiring guide, and I think we can us the information and adapt it to our district.
